ASBMB launches Insights in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
Molecular movement and interaction form an intricate choreography, where each insight enriches our understanding and downstream applications. The American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is expanding ways to share emerging research across the breadth of the molecular life sciences by adding Insights in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, or IBMB, to its family of journals. Joining the society’s flagship Journal of Biological Chemistry, as well as Molecular & Cellular Proteomics and the Journal of Lipid Research, IBMB will further strengthen ASBMB’s commitment to advancing discovery through biochemistry and molecular biology. Together, ASBMB’s family of journals will reinforce ASBMB’s leadership as a home for research that drives fundamental understanding across the molecular life sciences, which is essential for long-term progress for health and human benefit.
Like all ASBMB journals, IBMB will be gold open access, a leading ASBMB value that ensures the results of research reach the widest possible audience. It also makes it easy for authors to comply with a growing array of funder mandates at an accessible article processing charge level, maximizing impact and visibility.
IBMB will also utilize Elsevier’s new platform for submission management, which will provide an improved author experience. Recognizing the value of building community, professional and early-career ASBMB members will receive a substantial discount when publishing in IBMB and all ASBMB journals.
Benjamin Garcia, currently head of biochemistry and molecular biophysics at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, will serve as IBMB’s inaugural editor-in-chief. Garcia’s lab focuses on the development and application of quantitative mass spectrometry-based proteomics and computational approaches for understanding dynamic protein and proteome posttranslational modifications. He has served on the editorial board for several other journals, including MCP.

IBMB will welcome work across the molecular life sciences, accepting de novo submissions beginning in early 2026 as well as providing a welcoming home and easy transfer for submissions transferred from other ASBMB journals. Research areas will range from chemical biology, signaling pathways, gene expression, metabolism and metabolomics, structural biology, to systems and synthetic biology and molecular evolution. The journal aims to provide a venue for rigorous, well-executed research that advances understanding across the molecular life sciences, whether by generating new discoveries and hypotheses, confirming existing models or revealing unexpected results.
